Out with the OLD, in with the NEW
We’ll be the first to admit that our “GRID” based linking system was NOT the easiest to use, or understand.
Having to find the GRID value that matched the right traffic source in your dashboard, that was then associated with the country your link was based on, was not what you wanted to deal with after jumping through all the hoops of getting signed up and approved by the various affiliate networks.
Well, after today we hope to never have to say “GRID” again. We are on to something better, and much simpler to use — “TSID”.
While it doesn’t sound as cool as it’s predecessor the technology behind it is.
With the “Traffic Source ID” you simply reference the ID of your traffic source and leave the rest to us. We’ll parse out iTunes link, identify your assigned affiliate tracking parameters and rebuild the link and pass it along faster then ever.
This means that you’ll find all the link building tools at the traffic source level (instead of 45 options at the country/ affiliate program level) in the GeoRiot dashboard.
Of course everything is backwards compatible so your old links will continue to keep earning you international commissions.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
More info on the new TSID:
The Link Maker Tool is saying that my “Your affiliate network is: DGM (Partner ID: 1002)” and my links now end with “partnerId%3D1002.” Is that wrong?
Previously we needed to pass in the partnerId parameter to the Link Maker tool to build the proper GRID based links. Now, because we don’t pass in a partnerId value the Link Maker tool simply defaults to using DGM / partnerId=1002. This is expected and nothing to worry about. These links work perfectly well and, as always, we pass them on to the user built specifically for their country and store and the relevant affiliate program.
How do I define my “base country?”
Your base country is still defined as the country that the iTunes link is based off of. For example:
US – http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/
UK – http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/
Australia – http://itunes.apple.com/au/artist/
Does this work for all types of links (Quick Build, Find / Replace, Search)?
Can I now use a link from a country that doesn’t have an affiliate program?
Yes! Links from China, Russia, India, etc. will now all work properly with the TSID system
